Carolina Henriques Pereira holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra, with a dissertation entitled “Escaping War and the Holocaust through Portugal: Refugees in the ‘Fixed Residence’ Zones of the Central Region (1940–1946)” (undertaken with the support of a doctoral fellowship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology [FCT], reference SFRH/BD/143217/2019). For this work, she was awarded, ex aequo, the Victor de Sá Prize in Contemporary History (2024) and, unanimously, the Mário Soares – EDP Foundation Prize (2024). She is the author, among other works, of Refugees of the Second World War in Caldas da Rainha (1940–1946) and co-author of Refugees in Twentieth-Century Portugal: Between Hospitality and Intransigence (2024). She is currently an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra.

Main interests and research topics: Contemporary History; European History; Local History; World War II; Portuguese Estado Novo (Second Republic); Refugees.
