José Luís dos Santos Barbosa is a Modern History PhD candidate in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra. His thesis investigates the University of Coimbra’s funding model between 1772 and 1836. He majored in History, with a minor in European Studies, and holds a Master’s degree in Modern History, both from Coimbra. He collaborates with the Center for the History of Society and Culture (CHSC). He is currently a research fellow of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, working on the project referenced SFRH/BD/143897/2019. He has written several articles, papers and a book on Economic History.

Main interests and research topics: Portugal in the Modern Age; Economic History; Financial History; Institutional History; Fiscal History; History of Universities; History of Local Power.
