Marco Penajoia is part of the technical team of the Santos Rocha Municipal Museum. He has taken part in several archaeological interventions in the public and private sectors. He has published several scientific works and papers. The Portuguese Academy of History and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra awarded his work A Questão portuária em torno de Montemor-o-Velho: Estudo de Arqueologia (The Question of Shipping around Montemor-o-Velho: an Archaeological Study). He was distinguished for excellence in the Newton Programme, an archaeology and heritage project promoted by the Pedro Nunes Institute, the Portuguese Tourism Bureau, and the Business Incubator Network of Central Portugal (RIERC).

Main interests and research topics: Archaeology of the Lower Mondego – territory, forms and spaces of rural and urban settlement; Museum assets; Harbour archaeology; Roman archaeology; the Early Middle Ages.
