Marcela Santana holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Viçosa (Brazil, 2009, 2012) and a Ph.D. in Heritages of Portuguese Influence from the University of Coimbra (2022), with a cotutelle period at the Fluminense Federal University (Brazil). She was a professor at the integrated master’s in Architecture at M_EIA (Cape Verde) and in the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Aix-Marseille University (France). She was a founding partner of A7 Arquitetura (Brazil), working on architectural and urban projects, technical studies, and consultancy. Currently, she is the executive coordinator of the UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Dialogue on Heritages of Portuguese Influence – University of Coimbra.

Main interests and research topics: architecture and urbanism of Portuguese influence; heritage protection and management processes.
